Choosing the right dog for someone with fur allergies

People who are allergic to the fur of animals are most typically allergic to proteins the animal sheds from the skin along with the fur. When looking for a dog to suit someone with fur allergies, one should be looking for dogs that are prone to fur types that don’t shed much.

When choosing the breed of dog, hypoallergenic dogs are the best. There are breeds that shed less than others such as poodles, hairless breeds of any type, bichon frises, or dogs with wiry hair.This/tag helps explain it more. Dogs bred to go in the water usually have a special coat to protect the dog against water extremities meaning less prone to shedding in order to maintain insulation. Hybrid dogs can also be a good choice but not all puppies out of the same litter are the same. Exposure to the animal prior to homing it with a new owner is a good action to see if there is a strong allergy.

Just choosing the dog based on breed isn’t enough to assist in controlling allergic responses. If the dog’s health is well cared for then the owner will assist in controlling pet dandruff which is directly related to the proteins shed by the dog.

The new owner will want to make sure the dog’s skin is cared for properly so that it does not dry out. Using shampoos and foods which promote healthy, well hydrated fur and skin will minimize shedding. A habit of daily cleaning of animal and environment will also help keep allergens from the pet controlled to minimize interactions with animal proteins on the owner’s body.

The right dog for someone with fur allergies is a healthy dog that the owner can love and provide appropriate care for so as to prevent dandruff. Proper care minimizes exposure to allergens.
